World Wetlands Day - Tuesday 2nd February 2010!
PRESS RELEASE
26th January 2010…For Immediate Release (county-wide)
World Wetlands Day
- Tuesday 2nd February 2010!
The 2nd February each year is World Wetlands Day. It marks
the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2nd
February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the
Caspian Sea. Each year since 1997, government agencies,
non-governmental organisations and community groups have used this
date as an opportunity to raise public awareness of wetland values
and benefits, and the Ramsar Convention. For more information about
World Wetlands Day and the Ramsar Convention visit www.ramsar.org.
This year the theme for the day is 'Caring for Wetlands - an
answer to climate change'. The theme is looking at two key
areas, biodiversity loss and climate
change, exploring their relationships and what it
means for wetlands and people. Although wetlands and their species
are vulnerable to climate change, if we manage them well and look
at conservation on a landscape-scale, they can have an important
role in the mitigation of climate change.
Here at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust's Brandon Marsh Nature
Centre, our main wetland reserve and Site
of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI),
we're marking the day with free entry for non-members (members
gain free entry as normal), and a guided walk.

If you would like to visit Brandon Marsh Nature Centre and the
reserve on the day and take advantage of this free entry, then
all you need to do is print a copy of the voucher which is
available to download from our website here.
Please fill in your details and hand this in at the Visitor Centre
Reception on the day.
The free guided walk around the reserve will be led by the
Brandon Marsh Conservation Volunteers and start at 2pm on the day.
This walk has limited spaces and can only be attended if you book a
place prior to the day. To do this, please phone the Trust on 024
7630 2912 before the 1st February.
You can also make a donation to our Wetland Appeal by 'making a
wish' in our very own mini wetland, located in the Visitor's
Centre! For larger donations, please phone the number above or
speak to a member of staff in the Visitor Centre. We are very
grateful for any donations, however large or small.
