Students rebuild vandalised site

PRESS RELEASE

2nd February 2010…For Immediate Release

Students from the CTC Kingshurst Academy have been tidying up after part of the Nature Area at Warwickshire Wildlife Trust's Parkridge Centre was vandalised. The vandals destroyed the Forest Schools area, which is used to deliver environmental education activities to groups of children and teenagers, during the summer holidays last year. Students from Forest Oak School had worked on the site, making seating area with hand made benches and a 'Habitat Hotel' for insects, all of which were pulled apart and strewn across the woodland.

The dedicated team from Kingshurst Academy have been visiting on Thursday afternoons to re-build the seating area and the habitat hotel. In addition, they were so keen to do more that they cleared a large patch of brambles from the area to allow groups more space during sessions and to encourage a greater diversity of woodland flowers. The group are volunteering as part of the Brueton Park Heritage Project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project is engaging young people in researching the natural history of the park and carrying out conservation work to ensure the wildlife is preserved for future generations to enjoy.
