Caroline Bailey, Reserves Biodiversity Officer says, "On January
30 1774 Capt Cook reached 71°10' south, 1820km from the South Pole,
setting a record for the nearest approach to the South Pole but,
believe it or not, he may have been warmer that we have been in the
UK recently since January is summertime in the Antarctic. Winter is
not all gloom - a winter woodland with every twig picked out by a
rime of snow is a feast for the eyes, and the depth of silence
created gives a real opportunity to pause and reflect. Joining in
with one our work parties won't be a silent affair, but the
camaraderie and satisfaction of a job well done will warm you
through and through, so ignore those grey skies and give us a
ring."
