Michael Drummond, Living Landscapes Volunteering Officer says, "Hedges need to be maintained efficiently if they are to do the job they are designed for; to make an impenetrable barrier to livestock as well as providing them with shelter. As well as being utilitarian, hedges are also important for our wildlife and for their scenic value, so laying the hedge not only makes it look good, it also encourages the shrubs to regenerate keeping the hedge bushy and healthy. Importantly, once a hedge has been laid regular trimming will keep it in good order for up to 50 years. Our Warwickshire hedges tend to be laid in the Midland Style, which suits the species growing in them and the job they are required to do. Learning to lay a hedge is not a mysterious dark art, but the acquisition of a tremendously fulfilling skill, so why not come and give it a try? Book your place now to avoid disappointment."
