mothMoths' Trapping Night
Tuesday 15 June 8.30pm - 00.00am
at Clowes Wood

Join Living Landscapes Officer Izumi Segawa for this introductory moths' night at Clowes Wood SSSI. Be prepared to be surprised at the diversity of size and colour of moths; they certainly are not just brown and furry. Prior knowledge is not needed, but if you do have a moth trap, please bring it along.

COST: FREE EVENT

Izumi Segawa, Living Landscapes Officer says, "Butterflies are all assumed to be bright and pretty and moths to be dull and dreary. Perhaps that's because we tend to be out and about in the daytime, rather than at night, and so we see more butterflies than we do moths - and for some reason the moths which come indoors and blunder around the lights in the evenings tend be brownish coloured ones. Come and join in with our moths' trapping session and find out for yourself that moths are a rainbow-hued group of insects of incredible beauty and variety; they certainly are not the Cinderellas of the insect world when you get to know them. The only snag is that you will need to be bit of a night owl for this session, but the sacrifice of a few hours' sleep is a small price to pay for a glance at a whole new world, and an amazingly lovely one at that."

For further information, please contact Izumi Segawa on 024 7630 2912

Coventry Water Vole Project: Balsam Bashing and Plug Planting!

watervoleHimalyan balsam

Wednesday 9 June and Saturday 12 June: 10am - 3.30pm

at Lake View Park, off Lake View Road, Coventry.

We need your help in improving the habitat along the river for Britain's most severely threatened native mammal, the water vole. Water voles have declined by as much as 95% in Warwickshire in recent years, and it is thought that if we don't act fast, then this charismatic riverside animal will become extinct within our lifetimes.

The project will involve removing the non-native invasive plant Indian (Himalayan) balsam and replanting the area with native 'water vole friendly' wetland plants

Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided, but bring along a packed lunch if you wish to stay all day. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear, i.e. wellies!

The project will span one month and be split over nine days - Saturdays will be led by Coventry City Council and Wednesdays will be led by the Trust. For the full list of dates, please visit the Wetlands page.

COST: FREE EVENT

The Trust gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Debenhams Coventry for this project from the sale of carrier bags in-store.
